Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi confirmed the South Tangerang MRT project had been included in the Greater Jakarta Transportation Master Plan (RITJ). However, he explained that it would require further discussions regarding funding, as he estimated that construction would cost between Rp 800 billion (US$58 million) and Rp 1 trillion per kilometer.
irin Rahmi Diany seems eager to end her second-term as mayor of South Tangerang, Banten, with a bang. She has set her eyes on extending the existing MRT route in Jakarta to South Tangerang and has recently been pushing for the government to list the ambitious project as a national strategic project (PSN).
“We’re trying to get the project included as one of national strategic projects. If this happens, typically the project can be accelerated,” Airin said on Tuesday as reported by antaranews.com.
Her request was not without preparation. She claimed her administration had carried out a pre-feasibility study on the project and that the results had also been forwarded to the Transportation Ministry’s Greater Jakarta Transportation Body (BPTJ).
Based on the study, the new route will extend from Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, where the MRT’s first station and depot are located, 27 kilometers to Rawu Bantu, passing Ciputat, Pamulang and Puspitek.
Rawa Buntu is already home to one of five commuter line stations in the city, in addition to two toll roads and a feeder bus feeder service.
“We’ll see what we need and assess our best options, including each region’s capacity, because the project will be built in two provinces, Jakarta and Banten. We are also still waiting to see which region will be appointed as the joint project authority,” she said.
Airin has been voicing support for the project since 2018, before the Jakarta MRT began operating.
