Indonesian domestic carriers have cut airfares by up to 50 percent to 10 local tourist destinations. As a result, many across the country are now mulling over plans to go on vacation, coronavirus be damned.
hen the coronavirus outbreak began affecting the global economy, including the tourist industry in Indonesia, the government made the decision to provide incentives for businesses and extra days off for potential travelers.
The measures might just bring results, with many across the country mulling over plans to go on vacation domestically.
Faisal Ardi, a credit analyst at a regional lender, said he was considering a visit to Bali or Lombok after learning that airlines began cutting their fares for domestic routes on Sunday. A day later on Monday, the government increased the number of national holidays this year to 24 days from the previous 20 days.
"It'd be too bad if I didn't use this moment to explore the country's beauty," the 26-year-old Jakartan said, adding that he hoped discounted airfares would be followed up with hotel promos.
Another travel enthusiast, Yogi Elsya Aprianto, said he planned to go to Yogyakarta in the near future to take the advantage of discounted airfare tickets.
"As long as air ticket promos are there, I'll make time for traveling," the West Sumatra-based freelance photographer said on Tuesday.
