President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has urged for calm after two terrorist attacks this week, and security has been beefed up ahead of the Easter weekend.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has urged the public to stay calm after the nation was rocked by another suspected terrorist attack that did not claim any lives.
On Wednesday afternoon, a young woman entered the National Police headquarters asking for directions to an on-site post office but proceeded to open fire in front of the Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) building with an airsoft gun before officers shot her dead.
The incident came only three days after a couple of newlyweds detonated a suicide bomb outside the gates of the Makassar Cathedral after a Palm Sunday service. The couple has been identified as members of terrorist group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD).
“Regarding the terrorist attack [Wednesday] afternoon at the National Police headquarters, I call on all the people in the country to stay calm, vigilant and united against terrorism,” Jokowi said during a speech officiating a new toll road in South Tangerang on Thursday.
The President said he had ordered the police, the military and the National Intelligence Agency to enhance national security. “Once again, I say that there is no place for terrorism in the country,” Jokowi said.
