Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, a Gerindra Party politician and the second daughter of Indonesia’s first president Sukarno, died of COVID-19 on Saturday morning.

Prior to her death, she was hospitalized at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hosital (RSPAD) in Jakarta. She is survived by three sons.
Gerindra Party executive Sufi Dasco Ahmad was among the first people to break the news of Rachmawati’s death on social media. He wrote in a statement in his Instagram account that the political party was losing one of Sukarno’s daughters.
“We are asking Indonesian people to pray that she dies in a state of husnul khotimah [a good ending] and please forgive her mistakes,” Dasco wrote in a statement on Saturday.
Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto said the party and its chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri expressed their condolences to Rachmawati’s passing. Megawati is Rachmawati’s older sister.
