The protests are the latest since parliament approved the amendment of a law last week to allow members of the military to hold more government roles -- which critics said would expand military authority over civilian affairs.
Budi Djiwandono, the deputy chief of committee overseeing the military law bill at the House of Representatives, made the statement at an event held by the finance regulator after a plunge in markets on Tuesday.
While all regional heads sworn in on Feb. 20 will be inaugurated by Prabowo, only governors will be inducted by the President in a ceremony after the Feb. 24 ruling hearing. The elected regents and mayors will be inaugurated by their respective governors.
The termination, which has since been mediated and reversed, sparked the most glaring protest among state employees in a country where civil servants are rarely inclined to air their grievances about their superiors.
