State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir has announced that national flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia will increase its planned order of Boeing aircraft to 79 planes as part of ongoing import tariff negotiations with the US.
Danantara must resist passing out unconditional loans left and right lest it turns into a bailout fund for failing SOEs, and instead look to maintaining its commercial posture and stand as a catalyst for reform by rewarding discipline through capital injections.
The pilots union deemed the amount as unusual and criticized the move as inconsistent with a push from the government and the company for cost efficiency, urging management to conduct an evaluation to ensure the airline’s business sustainability.
