Danantara must resist passing out unconditional loans left and right lest it turns into a bailout fund for failing SOEs, and instead look to maintaining its commercial posture and stand as a catalyst for reform by rewarding discipline through capital injections.
The pilots union deemed the amount as unusual and criticized the move as inconsistent with a push from the government and the company for cost efficiency, urging management to conduct an evaluation to ensure the airline’s business sustainability.
The government plans to use the new sovereign wealth fund to help finance up to 100 aircraft to expand the fleet of the national airline, which has navigated a path of financial turbulence over the past decade or so, alongside a potential aim to strengthen the country's aviation industry.
