After being honored the Cecil B. DeMille award at the Golden Globes on Sunday, Meryl Streep delivered a speech that struck a chord with the audience. Her discourse was laden with empathy and emotion as she proceeded to rail against Donald Trump’s disdainful “performance” at a rally a year ago, while attempting to defend Hollywood, foreigners and the press.
The Golden Globes got off to a rocky start Sunday, with a broken teleprompter initially stalling host Jimmy Fallon, who still managed to start the show with a singing-and-dancing ode to La La Land and a steady diet of Donald Trump jokes.
The Golden Globes nominations had their usual quirks. "Deadpool," really? But the nominees did little to disrupt the dominant trends of this year's award season: that "La La Land" and "Moonlight" have separated themselves from a pack of richly diverse contenders.
