View all search resultsIndonesia’s capital city Jakarta has come out as the winner of the global 2021 Sustainable Transport Award (STA) for its ambitious integrated public transportation programs. Indonesia is the first-ever Southeast Asian country to have received the prestigious award.
"At the moment we are only using traffic cones [to mark the bike lanes], however we are setting up a plan to make those lanes along Jl. Sudirman to Bundaran HI permanent," Jakarta Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo said on Wednesday as reported by kompas.com.
From 2012 to 2016, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), there were on average 6,600 traffic accidents every year in the capital. Roughly 700 people died each year and thousands of others were injured.
