View all search resultsIt has been reported that Karimun, Riau Islands, has been part of a system of traders, shippers and transshipment points, including the floating hub along the Malacca and Singapore straits and Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, that has helped keep Russian oil and products flowing, despite the sanctions.
Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), the refinery and petrochemical arm of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, has denied reports that Russian oil products are being transshipped at Indonesia’s Karimun terminal in the Riau Islands.
“I went to Karimun. The point is there is no intolerance issue there. The problem [with the renovation] is merely regarding its building permit [IMB],” Religious Affairs Ministry special staff member Ubaidilah Amin Moech said on Tuesday.
Jokowi’s comment about such incidents being the responsibility of regional administrations drew criticism from interfaith activist Alissa Wahid, the daughter of former president Abdurrahman “Gus Dur” Wahid.
The church, which was established in 1928, obtained a building license (IMB) for the renovation last October but had postponed starting the process after objections from the local United Muslim Forum (FUIB) and the Karimun Regency Caring Alliance (APKK), who objected to the church’s location in Karimun’s capital of Tanjung Balai.
The National Police are still waiting for an official request from their Malaysian counterpart to arrest fugitive politician Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, who is believed to have fled to Karimun Island in Riau Islands.
