Plant development in Aceh's Leuser ecosystem may be scrapped after court ruling
Plans to build a hydropower plant (PLTA) with a capacity of 443 megawatts (MW) in the Leuser ecosystem zone in Gayo Lues regency, Aceh province, may be cancelled as the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) has won a lawsuit seeking to prevent construction.

Rampant deforestation in Leuser triggers floods, landslides
A team from the Leuser Conservation Forum performed a ground check on damaged areas in the ecosystem and found that, in 2018, about 5,685 hectares of the ecosystem were deforested, with the most serious damage found in Gayo Lues with 1,063 ha of deforested area.

Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s documentary Before the Flood, which revolves around climate change issues and includes his visit to Mount Leuser National Park in Aceh, has premiered in Los Angeles, California, and will be aired on the National Geographic Channel on Oct. 30.
