View all search resultsState-owned passenger ferry operator PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry has reported that more than 14,000 vehicles and 55,000 passengers from Java have crossed to Sumatra via Merak Port by Saturday, ahead of two national holidays this week.
Authorities are attempting to untangle the kilometers-long snarl of vehicles that has formed on the road to the key seaport in Banten as millions of people try to reach their hometowns on Sumatra to celebrate Idul Fitri with the families.
Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has expressed confidence that the trans-Java toll road will connect Merak Port in Banten to Surabaya in East Java by year-end as a number of the toll road sectors will soon be operational.
