It was claimed the retreat was important to create a shared understanding among the plus-size cabinet to stay in tune with Prabowo’s governing vision.
Newly inaugurated President Prabowo Subianto has sworn in Indonesia’s largest cabinet since the New Order era, which features politicians from his large electoral alliance, technocrats and familiar faces from the previous cabinet. However, neither the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) nor the NasDem Party have any representatives in the bloated cabinet, despite their assurance of supporting or at least being friendly to the government.
Presidential spokesman Hasan Nasbi issued a statement to respond to criticism that the retreat, which involved transporting all cabinet members and their deputies aboard military transport aircraft and housing them in air-conditioned-tents, could be considered wasteful spending.
President Prabowo Subianto concluded a military-style boot camp for his Red and White Cabinet on Sunday, during which he drilled his executive team on his flagship programs at the country’s military academy in a bid to foster teamwork and build a sense of solidarity within the expansive group.
The four-day semi-military retreat held for cabinet members at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java is not designed to make the government a militaristic one, but rather to introduce the Military Way, whose core values are discipline and loyalty to the nation and people, President Prabowo Subianto says.
