National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Abdul Muhari said the earthquake generated minor tsunami waves ranging from 9 to 19 centimeters in West Halmahera, as well as in Siau Tagulandang Biaro Islands regency and Talaud Islands regency in North Sulawesi and North Maluku.
Authorities in the Philippines and Indonesia urged residents in affected coastal regions to move to higher ground immediately, after the offshore quake hit about 24 kilometres west of Mindanao island's Sarangani province, the United States Geological Survey said.
