View all search resultsThe health of more than 200 haj pilgrims from Jambi had reportedly deteriorated in the days leading up to wukuf (the peak of the pilgrimage) at Arafah field in Mecca, on Aug. 31, according to the Religious Affairs Ministry.
After performing their religious duties in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, for 40 days, 390 haj pilgrims who had departed from the Medan embarkation point arrived safely at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, early on Thursday.
The Religious Affairs Ministry’s Jambi office is investigating a suspected haj fraud case involving the Fathonah Haj Pilgrimage Counseling Group (KBIH Fathonah), which has allegedly failed to dispatch 33 would-be pilgrims to Mecca.
The Association of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) has suggested the government cooperate with countries that do not use their full haj quota. ICMI chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie said strengthening coordination to use vacant haj seats belonging to other countries was a positive thing and would not violate the law.
