Among issues to be investigated by the House of Representatives' inquiry team on haj are alleged misallocation of this year's haj quota and reported poor facilities received by pilgrims in Arafah and Mina, Saudi Arabia, during the peak of the pilgrimage.
To ensure the smooth implementation of the haj this year, the Customs and Excise Directorate General, as an agency tasked with checking baggage that passengers carry to and from abroad, has pledged to provide optimal service for haj pilgrims prior to departure or on arrival to Indonesia.
Egypt accounts for more than half of this year's haj fatalities -- 658 out of more than 1,000 reported as of Friday by around 10 countries stretching from Senegal to Indonesia, according to an AFP tally.
At least 550 people have died on haj, diplomats told French outlet Agence France Presse (AFP) on Tuesday. Three hundred and twenty-three of the dead were Egyptians, most of whom perished due to heat-related illness, AFP reported, citing two Arab diplomats.
