The government will merge PT Alumunium Development Corporation (Aldevco) into state-owned aluminum producer PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) as part of the preparation for the latter to be a leader of the holding company in the mining sector.
The Indonesian government under Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has begun to execute a plan to establish sectoral holding companies comparable in size and competitiveness to global leading companies. Through this plan, the government ambitiously aims to increase the number of Indonesian companies in the Fortune Global 500 list from 2 in 2015 to 6 in 2019.
The establishment of a holding company for mining state-owned enterprises (SOEs) will potentially bulk up corporate assets worth Rp270 trillion (US$20.83 billion), skyrocketing from existing assets worth Rp65.6 trillion scattered among separated SOEs.
