Nearly 1,000 people, including 200 children, were named as suspects by the National Police and its regional offices for alleged incitement and involvement in violent riots during the string of anti-government protests across the country from late August to early September.
Indonesia has been consistent and steadfast in its efforts to support the Palestine cause by ultimately ensuring that it remains an international agenda and highlighting its multidimensionality, especially with regard to the UN principle of the Responsibility to Protect.
"We are following closely the spate of violence in Indonesia in the context of nationwide protests over parliamentary allowances, austerity measures, and alleged use of unnecessary or disproportionate force by security forces," said UN human rights office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani.
