View all search resultsThe issuance of a government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) on job creation will convey positive impacts on economic activities this year, experts say, as it can act as a catalyst to improve Indonesian business climate which eventually leads to a healthier investment growth.
The State Palace has downplayed typos and errors discovered in the Job Creation Law that was recently signed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, calling them unsubstantial technical errors amid mounting protests highlighting the flawed legislation process for the controversial law.
Protests against the controversial Job Creation Law descended into riots in some parts of the capital city on Thursday, as a number of facilities were set ablaze by unidentified mobs and clashes between the police and protesters continued.
In view of the wide opposition by various groups of people against the omnibus law, it is most urgent and imperative for the government to accelerate the formulation of all the regulations needed to implement the legislation, especially for the controversial provisions regarding labor rights and the environment.
More than 90 percent of the law is actually designed to stimulate domestic and foreign investment by removing bureaucratic inefficiencies and excessive licensing requirements as well as opaque, overlapping and contradictory regulations that have long hindered competitiveness.
