As the investigation of the acid attack against Novel Baswedan appears to have stalled, the senior Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator has been accused of faking his left eye injury, an allegation perpetuated by influential users, according to social media analysts.
Finally solving the 2017 acid attack against KPK investigator Novel Baswedan has become a priority for President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who said on Friday he had given new National Police chief Gen. Idham Azis until December to solve the case.
Civil society groups are calling on the President to use the beginning of his second term to take a more progressive and assertive approach to solving the case of the acid attack against Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan.
A new video released by independent whistleblower platform IndonesiaLeaks has shed new light on allegations that two police officers formerly seconded to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) tampered with evidence of a graft case that implicated the nation’s top cop.
“Based on our interviews with several witnesses, Novel and other KPK officials often use excessive force [in their investigation],” Setara Institute chairman Hendardi said. “Which is why we concluded that this could cause resentment and result in someone taking revenge.”
The acid attack against Novel Baswedan was no ordinary crime with the top Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator the sole victim. It was, first and foremost, an attack against a state-sanctioned body established for a single mission: to root out chronic corruption plaguing the archipelago.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has given the National Police a deadline of three months to discover who attacked the Corruption Eradication Commission's senior investigator, Novel Baswedan, with acid two years ago, which still remains a mystery despite a six-month probe by a special fact-finding team.
