View all search resultsAn online petition calling for the release of South Kalimantan journalist Diananta "Nanta" Putera Samedi, who was recently arrested for his reporting of a land dispute, continues to gather support, reaching over 10,000 signatures as of Sunday.
The #KuToo campaign - a play on the word for shoes, or "kutsu" in Japanese, and "kutsuu" or pain - was started by actress and freelance writer Yumi Ishikawa, who submitted the petition to the health ministry on Monday.
After the riots against the reelection of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo that hit Jakarta form May 21-22, the governor was criticized for immediately visiting one of the victims, helping lift up the corpse and later declaring that the city would cover the medical expenses for all victims.
“Issues like adultery and sexual morality are already included in the KUHP [Criminal Code] bill,” said Komnas Perempuan commissioner Mariana Amiruddin. “This bill is the only one that looks out for the victims.”
