President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has reportedly given his approval for a revised presidential regulation ensuring the supply of Premium-branded gasoline in Java, Madura and Bali, regions where the fuel was previously phased out.
State-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina is set to resume supplying 1,926 gas stations in Java, Madura and Bali with subsidized Premium gasoline, after having previously stopped supplying the gas stations with the fuel, claiming that customers preferred using non-subsidized fuel.
State-owned energy company Pertamina has said it will still be selling subsidized gasoline of the 88-RON type when the country hosts the Asian Games 2018 in August and the IMF-World Bank meeting in October, despite calls to replace it with more environmentally friendly fuel.
Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arcandra Tahar said in Jakarta on Monday that there was a shortage of subsidized Premium-brand gasoline in gas stations in many parts of the country, including those in Sabang, Aceh and in Merauke, Papua.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has strongly warned state-owned energy firm Pertamina not to reduce the supply of subsidized fuels, Premium brand gasoline and Solar brand diesel fuel, to gas stations across the country.
