During a meeting with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday discussed possible bilateral efforts to increase trade and investment, as well as rice imports, as ways to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Jakarta and Phnom Penh.
Bapanas announced on Monday that this year's import quota for rice had been increased by another 1.6 million tonnes as a precautionary measure, and made reassurances that this boost ensured there would be enough rice for the upcoming Ramadan-Idul Fitri holiday season.
The National Food Agency (Bapanas) is planning to import 2 million tonnes of rice from Thailand to combat shortages and skyrocketing prices across the country, the agency’s chief secretary Sarwo Edhy said on Sunday.
