View all search resultsThe Office of the Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister has vowed to continue port and coastal infrastructure development projects, including the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) and the Patimban seaport.
The modernized Rauf Rahman Benteng Port saw its first shipment on Monday after being officially opened by the Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Ministry’s infrastructure and transportation deputy secretary Lukijanto on Sept. 9.
State-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III has recorded a decline in ship traffic in this year’s first half as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupts global trade and decimates the sea freight and logistics industry.
While the Transportation Ministry announced a temporary closure for passenger seaports in Papua, it stated that airports cannot be closed as they also serve other functions, such as receiving cargo and humanitarian shipments.
Container traffic at Indonesia’s biggest and busiest seaport, Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta, declined 5.13 percent year-on-year from January to February, but the port operator expects improvements with factories in China reopening.
