The Religious Affairs Ministry claimed to having issued several regulations to prevent sexual violence cases from taking place in Islamic boarding schools as part of improvements to preventing such abuses from taking place.
According to the Head of the Cybercrime Subdirectorate at the East Kalimantan Police, Comr. Ariansyah, AMZ first came into contact with the victim last year through the popular online gaming platform Roblox.
“A citizen went to the police to report a sexual assault, but instead of being protected, she was victimized a second time by the very people meant to protect her,” Sarifuddin said on Tuesday, as quoted by Kompas.
The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) reported that in 2024, at least 15 female detainees were subjected to gender-based violence by authorities during the investigation process. This abuse included forced nudity and sexual assault intended to intimidate and coerce the victims into confessing to their alleged crimes.
The National Police have dishonorably discharged Adj. Sr. Comr. Fajar Widyadharma Lukman, the former chief of the Ngada Police in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), after he was found guilty of violating the police force’s code of ethics for sexually abusing a minor and using drugs.
