President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo hosted NasDem Party chairman Surya Paloh at the State Palace on Monday after having shunned the coalition member for months over his party’s support for opposition presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, in a détente that analysts say could be aimed at influencing a possible runoff election.

The speculations intensified on Tuesday after a Golkar executive revealed that during the meeting Airlangga was advised by former vice president Jusuf Kalla, who led Golkar between 2004 and 2009, to join the KPP, which is nominating former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan for the 2024 presidential race.
During the dinner held at the NasDem Party's headquarters in Central Jakarta, Airlangga was joined by party chairman Surya Paloh, the party's presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, chairman of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and former vice president Jusuf Kalla.
