View all search resultsStudents from SMA 1 state senior high school in Parung Panjang, West Java, staged a rally to demand authorities take real action to address the reckless behavior of truck drivers that use the road after one student was left permanently disabled following a tragic accident.
The discovery of the bodies - 38 adults and one teenager - was made in the early hours after emergency services were alerted to people in a truck container on an industrial site in Grays, about 20 miles (32 km) east of central London.
According to the Jakarta Police there were 243 truck accidents in Greater Jakarta last year, accounting for 4.11 percent of the 4,286 traffic accidents in the area. Meanwhile, a 2017 study of state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga revealed that 64 percent of accidents on highways involved freight trucks.
Authorities, including the transport ministry, said they were investigating the cause of the accident but were unable to provide further details. Police confirmed a collision between a vehicle and the train, but could not elaborate, citing the investigation.
