part from athletes from countries such as England and Malaysia, the 2017 Bintan Triathlon held from May 20-21 in Riau Islands province also welcomed renowned Indonesian race-car driver Rio Haryanto.
“I participated in this event to work on my cardio and physical strength, but most importantly, I’m here to enjoy the beauty of Bintan Island,” said Haryanto.

This is the first time the popular driver has joined in the triathlon.
After finishing the F1 series in Singapore last year, Haryanto and his fellow racers went to Bintan and Bali for a vacation.
The race was divided into five categories: Olympic Distance (1.5 km swim; 40 km bike; 10 km run), Sprint Distance (750 meter swim; 20 km bike; 5 km run), Youth Distance (300 meter swim; 12 km bike; 3 km run), Kids Distance (150 meter swim; 6 km bike; 1.5 km run) and Fun Duo Challenge (1.5 km run; 150 meter swim; dash to the finish line).
Some 1,400 athletes from 30 countries took part in the two-day international event. (asw)
