The new Galunggung train serves Bandung's Kiaracondong-Tasikmalaya route.
State-owned railway company PT KAI launched on Wednesday the Galunggung train at Kiaracondong station in Bandung, West Java.
Antara news agency reported that the economy train, which will serve the Kiaracondong-Tasikmalaya route, comprises six cars with 636 seats. In an effort to promote the train, PT KAI said passengers were allowed to ride for free until Jan. 25, 2019.
PT KAI director Edi Sukmoro reminded Galunggung passengers that they would still be required to get tickets, which can be acquired at train stations seven days before departure.
Passengers will also need to bring a form of identification.

One person is allowed to buy a maximum of four tickets and the date of departure cannot be changed, Edi added.
After Jan. 26, tickets will cost Rp 35,000 (US$2.40) for long-distance trips of 58 kilometers and Rp 25,000 for shorter trips.
The train was named after an active volcano located in the Tasikmalaya district.
In addition to Mount Galunggung, which is a popular tourist spot featuring a scenic lake and hot springs, Tasikmalaya is known for its culinary delights, including nasi tutug oncom (rice with fermented soybean paste). (wng)
