The daily tour, themed Go Around Jakarta, will be around two hours long and run from June 22 to 28. Participants can expect to see historical sites and landmarks of the city, along with getting cultural and culinary insights from guides.

Among the highlighted places are Setu Babakan Betawi cultural village, which houses a three-story Betawi museum, amphitheater, traditional houses and workshop areas; the iconic Welcome Statue at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle; popular nightlife and culinary spot Jl. Jaksa; and Kampung Arab as one of the well-known acculturation places in Jakarta.

Benarivo Triadi Putra, CEO of Atourin, told tempo.co that prices for the tours start at Rp 30,000 (US$2.13) per person. Passes for three and five days are available at Rp 75,000 and Rp 120,000, while the whole tour for one week is Rp 165,000.

Travel organizers have turned to virtual tours amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as travel restrictions are applied and tourist attractions are mostly closed. Indonesian organizers have offered virtual tours since early April, while theme parks and zoos have also tapped into these tours with the help of social media.

Established in 2018, Atourin has held two virtual tour training workshops for licensed tour guides in Indonesia since late April. In an interview with The Jakarta Post in May, Atourin chief financial and partnership officer Muchdlir Johar Zauhariy said virtual tours could be an alternative tourism activity during this pandemic, and they could also be held when the outbreak subsides.

Last year, festive activities and events were held to celebrate Jakarta’s anniversary with the Jakarta Night Festival as the main event on Jl. MH Thamrin in Central Jakarta.

Various traditional and modern shows that took place until July also entertained residents, such as Jakarnaval, Jakarta Beat Society, Seribu Island Indie Festival, Jakarta Creative Night and the Abang None pageant. (wng)
