Jokowi said ASEAN's peace plan, the Five-Point Consensus, which calls for an end to violence and dialogue between all parties in Myanmar, remained the reference point for the solution for the crisis.
resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said on Sunday, ahead of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, that the Myanmar crisis must end soon.
Jokowi arrived in Labuan Bajo on Sunday to inspect the final preparations for the event before chairing the summit on Tuesday.
More than 700 delegates have confirmed their attendance, with ASEAN leaders again choosing to bar Myanmar’s military administration from attending the summit due to its lack of progress in implementing the Five-Point Consensus (5PC), an ASEAN peace plan the junta chief agreed to after the coup in 2021.
Jokowi said the Myanmar issue would be discussed specifically during the summit, set to be held from May 9 to 11.
"We want the conflict in Myanmar to stop," Jokowi told reporters at Komodo International Airport, a recording of which was published by the Presidential Secretariat on YouTube.
He said the ASEAN's 5PC, which calls for an end to violence and dialogue between all parties in Myanmar, remains the reference point for the solution for the crisis.
With final preparations still underway for the summit, the biannual meeting of Southeast Asian nations will be preceded with a meeting of Community of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN that is scheduled to take place on Monday.
