efense Minister Prabowo Subianto held a meeting on Monday with Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles in Jakarta, shortly after the two attended the IISS Asia Security Summit Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore over the weekend.

Marles arrived at the Defense Ministry's headquarters in Central Jakarta at noon on Monday and was welcomed by Prabowo, who then took him on a review of the honor guards.

The two officials later staged their meeting behind closed doors.

"I hope that the two countries continue working to strengthen the relationship between Indonesia and Australia, especially in the defense sector, in the spirit of mutual respect and trust for the national interests of the two countries," Prabowo said in a statement issued shortly after the meeting.

Monday's meeting was the second high-level meeting between Prabowo and Marles, who previously met earlier in February in Canberra.

In the last meeting in Canberra, Prabowo and Marles were joined by Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi and her Australian counterpart Penny Wong.

The February meeting, which was deemed a success by the Australian media, produced a joint pledge to further upgrade the Australia-Indonesia strategic alliance in defense and intelligence sharing.
