The Vice President is on a five-day working visit to China, where he is meeting with Premier Li Qiang to discuss bilateral ties, including potential investment for Indonesia's halal industry.
ice President Ma'ruf Amin met with Chinese Premiere Li Qiang over the weekend to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties between their countries.
Ma'ruf arrived on Sept. 14 for a five-day working visit to China that is expected to wrap up on Sept. 19.
During their meeting, the Vice President thanked China for its support of Indonesia's 2023 ASEAN chairmanship while also expressing appreciation for the Asian superpower’s cooperation with Indonesia.
“Indonesia thanks China for its willingness to deepen cooperation [...] in the areas of the economy, trade and people-to-people exchanges, strengthening coordination and cooperation in regional and multilateral affairs, supporting each other and pushing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a new level," Ma'ruf said in a statement quoted by China's information office.
In a separate statement, the Vice President’s office said Ma'ruf would seek Chinese investment in Indonesia’s halal industry.
“It is highly essential because Indonesia aspires to become the world’s largest supplier of halal goods. So far Indonesia has only been a consumer and later, a producer. This is the reason the Vice President is meeting with entrepreneurs engaged in halal goods in Fujian province,” vice presidential spokesman Masduki Baidlowi said in the statement.
Ma'ruf is also scheduled to take part in several interviews with Chinese media outlets the People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Guangxi Daily, Guangxi Radio and Television, Nanning Daily and Nanning Radio and Television.
