efense Minister Prabowo Subianto discussed bilateral collaboration with South Korea in the transfer of defense technology on Wednesday and emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation aimed at increasing defense capabilities.

“We are committed to exploring the opportunity to strengthen collaboration and are open to working together on stronger technology transfer,” Prabowo said during a meeting with South Korean ambassador to Jakarta Lee Sang-deok at the Defense Ministry on Wednesday, as quoted by the ministry’s official website.

“This [collaboration] is expected to have an impact on better defense capability improvement in the future.”

Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for South Korea’s contributions to joint defense projects with Indonesia, especially regarding the procurement of submarines.

“In the future, I hope that we will not only prioritize quality but also state of the art technologies and knowledge transfer,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lee congratulated Prabowo on his apparent victory in the 2024 presidential election, according to the preliminary count of the General Elections Commission (KPU).

The ambassador also expressed hope that Indonesia would maintain a strong relationship with South Korea should Prabowo take office in October.
