During his meeting with Macron, Prabowo congratulated France for hosting the Paris Olympics and conveyed his appreciation for the French president's role in maintaining and improving the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and France on various sectors, including security and defense.
efense Minister Prabowo Subianto arrived in Paris for a work visit and meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday, two days ahead of the opening ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Upon arriving at the Élysée Palace, the former Army general was welcomed by Macron. Prabowo thanked the French president for the warm welcome, as reported in a statement issued by the Defense Ministry on Thursday.
During his meeting with Macron, Prabowo congratulated France for hosting the Paris Olympics. The opening ceremony for the summer games is slated for Friday, but several sports, such as soccer, already started competitions as early as Wednesday.
“We’re sure that this Olympics will bring huge success, display incredible talents from athletes from around the world and unite countries in the spirit of friendship and competition,” Prabowo said at the meeting.
Aside from the Summer Olympics, Prabowo and Macron also talked about global security issues and bilateral relations between Indonesia and France. The defense minister, who is slated to be sworn into office as the next Indonesian president in October, thanked Macron for his “important and active” role in maintaining the relationship.
“I’m certain that with Your Excellency’s capacity as president, the cooperation between Indonesia and France will be maintained and improved,” Prabowo said, addressing Macron.
