Sixty-five Indonesian citizens have fled Lebanon since early August amid intensified Israeli military offensive in the country, with 25 of them have arrived in Jakarta.
The Foreign Ministry is encouraging Indonesian citizens to follow instructions from the country’s representatives in Lebanon to evacuate as soon as possible for their personal safety, amid intensified offensives by Israeli forces against Iran-backed Hezbollah in the region.
Citizens should follow all contingency plans communicated by the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, including all warnings to evacuate from the country, said the ministry’s director for citizen protection Judha Nugraha.
“Don’t wait until the situation gets worse,” he said during a press briefing in Jakarta on Friday.
Judha warned that should the war intensify and military offensives hit transportation facilities such as roads and airports, the door would be closed for the ministry and the embassy to evacuate Indonesian citizens from Lebanon.
However, the director acknowledged that the decision whether to evacuate would be in each citizen’s hands despite the authorities’ responsibility to ensure their safety.
“I tell you as it is: We have to evacuate now before the situation escalates and we still have the chance,” Judha said.
