Some 36 countries are attending the summit, currently taking place in Kazan until Thursday. It is the first high-profile BRICS summit since a major expansion last year.

“In the summit, Indonesia will voice a message of peace and call for unity among developing countries and those of the Global South [and urge them] to increase solidarity and play an important role in creating a more inclusive, just and equal world order,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Aside from the summit, Sugiono is also slated to conduct a series of bilateral meetings.
Sugiono, a politician from the President’s Gerindra Party, was appointed to lead the Foreign Ministry on Monday, despite not having a formal diplomatic background.
