T

he Jakarta Post welcomed 2025 with a prestigious achievement as foreign affairs journalist Yvette Tanamal was conferred with this year’s Adam Malik Award for Best Print Journalist for her work on international news and issues related to Indonesian diplomacy.

Foreign Minister Sugiono presented Yvette and other winning journalists with the Adam Malik Awards on Friday, before the minister’s annual foreign policy speech in Jakarta. Friday’s speech was the first for Sugiono, who was appointed foreign minister by President Prabowo Subianto in October of last year

Other winners included Kompas daily for Best Newspaper, private news channel Metro TV for Best TV Station, private broadcaster Elshinta for Best Radio Station, state news agency Antara for Best Online News Outlet and IDN Times’ journalist Sonya Michaella for Best Online Journalist.

She joins the ranks of Post journalists who have been bestowed with the award, which takes its name from a former journalist and statesman Adam Malik Batubara.

The Adam Malik Awards were established on Jan. 16, 2002 to recognize the important role of the media in reporting about the country’s foreign policy accurately, objectively and informatively.

Born in 1917, Adam Malik started his career as a journalist and founded Antara news agency. He also served as foreign minister from 1966 to 1978 and later vice president between 1978 and 1983.

Aside from honoring journalists and media companies, the ministry also presents awards to its representatives abroad for their active role in promoting Indonesia and the nation’s diplomacy in the digital space with the Digital Diplomacy Awards, which were formerly known as the Social Media Awards.

Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Dewi Gustina Tobing and Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun received the Digital Heads of Mission awards. The social media accounts managed by the Indonesian embassies in Doha and Buenos Aires won in the Best Performance category, while digital platforms of the embassy in Baghdad took the Best Growth award.
