oreign Minister Sugiono is scheduled to attend the BRICS foreign ministers meeting next week in Brazil, marking his first participation since Indonesia officially became a member of the group of emerging economies three months ago.
The meeting, slated for April 28 and 29 in Rio de Janeiro, comes amid disruptions to global trade and supply chains caused by United States tariffs.
“The agenda of the meeting is set to cover foreign affairs, global and regional security, reform of global governance, as well as the role of Global South countries, including the aspirations of BRICS member states,” ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah “Roy” Soemirat said on Thursday.
The gathering, according to Roy, will also serve as “an important platform to prepare various matters to be discussed and finalized as deliverables for the upcoming BRICS summit.”
The 17th BRICS annual summit, scheduled for July 6 to 7, will be hosted by Brazil as the chair country, carrying the theme of strengthening Global South cooperation for inclusive and sustainable governance.
During its 2025 presidency, Brazil is prioritizing improving cooperation among Global South nations and deepening partnerships between BRICS countries in the areas of social, economic and environmental development.
