ndonesia and Croatia have pledged to strengthen economic cooperation and bilateral relations, ranging from the deployment of skilled Indonesian workers to Croatia to mutual support for each country’s bid to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the countries’ foreign ministers said on Monday.
Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman paid an official visit to Indonesia on Sunday and Monday, meeting several senior Indonesian officials and visiting the ASEAN Secretariat.
Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta, Foreign Minister Sugiono said both countries recognized each other’s strategic importance, with Croatia, as a member of the European Union, serving as a key partner for ASEAN.
Sugiono said the two countries were committed to increasing trade volume and people-to-people exchanges. He noted that with the recent signing of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) in September, Croatia could serve as an important gateway for Indonesian exports to Europe.
“We also [are] prepared to support Croatia's labor needs by providing skilled workers,” Sugiono said on Monday.
He added that his ministry was coordinating with other ministries “to be able to provide Indonesian workers with the necessary skills to fill employment opportunities outside of Indonesia.”
Bilateral trade between Indonesia and Croatia reached US$144.8 million in 2024.
