he Indonesian Military (TNI) plans to place 8,000 troops on standby for deployment on a peacekeeping mission in Gaza by the end of June pending a final decision from President Prabowo Subianto, who departed on Monday for Washington, D.C., to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace (BoP), an international postwar body led by the United States.
“Around 1,000 personnel are targeted for departure readiness by early April 2026, and the full contingent of 8,000 personnel is targeted for readiness no later than the end of June 2026,” Army spokesperson Col. Donny Pramono said on Sunday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
“As previously conveyed by the Defense Ministry, the plan to send 8,000 personnel [to Gaza] remains in the preparatory stage and awaits a final decision from the President,” Donny added.
Global attention in recent weeks has turned to Indonesia, the only country to publicly confirm participation in the International Stabilization Force (ISF), a United Nations-mandated peacekeeping force to help secure the Gaza Strip.
The ISF is set to deploy under the second phase of the Gaza peace plan and covers security, demilitarization, and preparations for the territory’s long-term administration.
The country’s ISF participation follows Prabowo’s pledge, made at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025, to contribute troops to help maintain peace in the world, including Gaza.
