resident Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to visit Tokyo and Seoul early next week for bilateral meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung to deepen partnerships with the two East Asia nations against the backdrop of heightened global tensions.
Prabowo will embark on his first official visit to Japan on March 30-31 before heading to Seoul on April 1 for a state visit, at the invitations of Indonesia’s two strategic partners in East Asia, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said on Thursday.
“The visits aim to strengthen Indonesia's strategic partnership with both countries and encourage [bilateral] cooperation in trade, investment, industry, energy and technology that is expected to provide tangible benefits to the national economy,” Yvonne told The Jakarta Post.
Prabowo is also expected to “discuss various regional and global issues of mutual concerns”, said Yvonne.
In Japan, Prabowo will also meet and dine with Emperor Naruhito, according to a statement published by Japan’s Foreign Ministry on March 13.
Prabowo’s upcoming Japan visit comes following a series of meetings between Jakarta and Tokyo in the past one year to push their cooperation further.
