View all search resultsSouth Korean President Lee Jae-myung highlighted Indonesia’s reliable supply of liquified natural gas (LNG) and coal to South Korea, while Prabowo noted the collaboration between Korea’s science and technology and Indonesia’s natural resources during the meeting in Seoul.
resident Prabowo Subianto met with his South Korean counterpart Lee Jae-myung in his first state visit to the East Asian country, during which both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector amid recent geopolitical uncertainties.
Upon arriving at the Blue House in Seoul on Wednesday, Prabowo was greeted by Lee in an official ceremony, with soldiers wearing traditional Korean military uniforms accompanying the leaders into the presidential office building. The ceremony was followed by a meeting between Prabowo and Lee.
In the meeting, President Lee underscored both countries’ role in maintaining global energy stability amid the global oil and gas crisis triggered by the United States-Israeli war on Iran that broke out in late February.
“I believe we need to strengthen the economic partnership between the two countries to minimize the impact of the crisis,” the South Korean president said.
He pointed to Indonesia’s reliable supply of liquified natural gas (LNG) and coal to South Korea, as well as successful cooperation in developing electric vehicles in Indonesia.
South Korean companies Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution inaugurated in 2024 Indonesia’s first battery cell production plant for electric vehicles, with a yearly capacity of 10 gigawatt hours (GWh) of battery cells.
