T

he Immigration Directorate General is ready to welcome participants of the 2018 Asian Games by offering a Zero Rupiah policy that exempts them from having to pay Indonesia’s usual visa fees.

Immigration Director General Ronny F. Sompie announced the decision on July 5 at the 2018 IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting.

The policy will apply to athletes, Asian Games officials and journalists.

"Officials from the Immigration Directorate General are ready with several plans and scenarios for the upcoming Asian Games," Ronny said.

The directorate is also providing participants with a special counter at immigration checkpoints.

Ronny noted that immigration officials have been trained to process the estimated 25,000 Asian Games guests.

"We will optimize our personnel by providing guidance for new candidates, namely, the Civil Servant Candidates [CPNS] who will be tasked with working at the immigration checkpoints,” Ronny added.

A special lane for participants will be available at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten; I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali; Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport in Palembang, South Sumatra; Halim Perdanakusuma in East Jakarta; and Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung, West Java.

Immigration officials will be on guard at these special lanes before, throughout and after the Asian Games activities, up until all participants leave Indonesia.
