he Indonesian Embassy in Seoul and PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk have joined forces to promote Indonesian products in South Korea. With the help of the Trade ministry, they will be featuring BNI’s micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) partners in the 2022 Imported Goods Fair (IGF). This step is expected to boost Indonesia’s exports.

The trade fair will be held on June 23-25 at Coex Seoul, organized by the Korea Importers Association (KOIMA). The event aims at supporting overseas manufacturers and suppliers as they seek to introduce their products to South Korean importers and consumers.

As part of the partnership, BNI consumer business director Corina Leyla Karnalies and KOIMA executive vice chairman Kim Young-sun signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that includes collaborations in business matching programs and information exchange between Indonesian exporters and South Korean importers. The signing was witnessed by Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Gandi Sulistiyanto and KOIMA chairman and CEO Kim Byung-kwan.

The Indonesian Pavilion at this year’s IGF will spotlight BNI’s MSME partners that were selected through the lender’s Xpora program. They are set to showcase their best-selling selection of products, such as wooden furniture and home decor, silver and pearl jewelry, coffee and food products.

According to Corina, South Korea holds massive potential for Indonesian MSME products considering that 82 percent of South Koreans live in urban areas.

Through the January-May period, BNI itself recorded a 30.62 percent growth in transactions. BNI and KOIMA’s collaboration is hoped to serve as a gateway for Indonesian companies to enter the South Korean market by matching them with potential importers. Gandi added that the move would also strengthen BNI’s role as an Indonesian global bank.

Indonesia’s participation in this year’s IGF directly impacts Xpora customers as members of KOIMA have begun requesting business matches for the event. BNI has also collaborated with the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul and the Trade Ministry to continue exploring the market potential in South Korea, including by encouraging partnerships with the Indonesian diaspora.

"This is an effort to create many investment opportunities abroad, opening new job opportunities for the Indonesian people, as well as encouraging domestic MSMEs to enter the international market while at the same time attracting potential foreign investment,” said Corina.
