he ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) held the 2023 ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) to honor the businesses and individuals who prioritize innovation, sustainability and inclusivity in the ASEAN region. The awards are a testament to the adoption of best practices, innovative strategies and a commitment to excellence.

ABA 2023 received more than 700 submissions from corporations, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and individuals from ASEAN countries. A total of 26 awards in 13 categories were awarded at the 2023 ABA award night, held at the Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place Hotel in Jakarta.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of cooperation, peace and respect for diversity as the foundation of ASEAN's strength, during his keynote speech.

"The strength of ASEAN is centered around a culture of cooperation, peace and respect for the diversity of ASEAN countries," said the Vice President.

At the event, he specifically expressed Indonesia's commitment to maintaining harmony in diversity, encouraging a peaceful approach to resolving conflicts and respecting international law.

“As a diverse country, Indonesia understands the hard work of maintaining harmony and unity in diversity. That is why Indonesia is determined to encourage peaceful approaches, constructive dialogue and compliance with international law in resolving conflicts," he added.

Significant Pillars

The Chairperson of the ASEAN-BAC 2023, Arsjad Rasjid, said that the business world is essential in advancing the ASEAN economy. Arsjad added that the ASEAN-BAC has consistently recognized business actors who have been driving companies and MSMEs. Business actors, he continued, have created positive performance, innovation, inclusion and sustainable growth in ASEAN.

"It is the responsibility of ASEAN-BAC to give recognition and respect for the various achievements that have been achieved. It is a positive step taken by Indonesia to reward the performance achievements of the industry, MSMEs and individuals," said Arsjad.

With the theme "Uniting Visions, Powering Growth," the 2023 ABA consists of eight award categories that cover five pillars for large companies and the MSMEs. Meanwhile, another three pillars represent the individual category.

Award Categories

The five pillars for companies and MSMEs include digital transformation, sustainable development, food security, health security, trade and investment facilitation, as well as three pillar for individuals.

The pillar for individuals includes 10 award categories, namely Digital Innovation, The Best CX, NetZero Leader, Plastic Waste Circularity, Sustainable Crop Production, Tech for Sustainable Agriculture, Health Innovation, Corporate Health Achievement, Export Growth and Innovative Investment. This pillar also includes three award categories for individuals: ASEAN Women Leaders, ASEAN Under 40 and Friends of ASEAN Awards.

Apart from handing out the awards, ABA 2023 is also an exhibition for the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the ASEAN region.

“We present innovative cultural performances that encapsulate the spirit and traditions of the region, including captivating immersive experiences,” Arsjad said. “What sets ABA 2023 apart is the presence of influential heads of state, ministers and business leaders from various countries. ASEAN countries are increasingly raising their prestige to build a stronger and more prosperous region,"
