Amazon Web Services (AWS) plans to invest US$5 billion over the next 15 years to develop the data centers that make up the region.
mazon Web Services (AWS) has launched a cloud infrastructure region in Jakarta, the company's first in Indonesia, in deepening its domestic market presence.
AWS, a subsidiary of American tech behemoth Amazon, said on Tuesday it would invest roughly US$5 billion in Indonesia over the next 15 years to develop and operate the data centers that make up the AWS Asia-Pacific (Jakarta) Region.
AWS infrastructure services vice president Prasad Kalyanaraman said the new facility would "help institutions, innovative start-ups and world-leading companies in Indonesia deliver cloud-powered applications to become a motor for economic development.”

The cloud provider estimated it could create 24,700 direct and indirect jobs annually by developing the cloud infrastructure region. These jobs would be part of the AWS supply chain, including construction, facility maintenance, engineering and telecommunications.
Growth in Indonesia’s digital economy has generated increasing demand for cloud services, such that global tech behemoths Google, Microsoft, Alibaba and Amazon have started investing in data centers located in Indonesia.
Jakarta will join Hong Kong, Beijing and Ningxia in China, Mumbai in India, Seoul in South Korea, Singapore, Tokyo in Japan and Sydney in Australia as AWS regions in the Asia-Pacific. There are 14 other regions across the globe.
