T Pertamina Patra Niaga, a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, has postponed the enforcement of restrictions on the purchase of its subsidized RON-90 fuel and diesel fuel, which were supposed to become effective on Aug. 1.

Pertamina Patra Niaga acting corporate secretary Irto Ginting cited unfinished work on the revision of Presidential Regulation No. 191/2014, which regulates fuel distribution, retail pricing and eligibility criteria for the purchase of subsidized fuel, as a reason for the delay.

“We will begin the implementation [simultaneously] with [the revision of the presidential regulation], which is still in the finalization process,” Irto told The Jakarta Post on Monday, adding that customers could still register their vehicles through the MyPertamina booths located at Pertamina gas stations as well as through the company’s website or smartphone app.

Pertamina Patra Niaga explained that the data would be used to determine whether a customer was eligible to purchase subsidized gasoline or diesel and possibly for further analysis “in accordance with regulatory needs.”

The policy, which will affect customers of Pertalite, Pertamina’s subsidized RON-90 fuel, as well as its diesel fuel Solar, is to be implemented gradually, according to Irto, beginning in regions that already have sufficient infrastructure in place. Robust mobile data networks will be an infrastructural requirement for app-based systems.
