omestic producers are set to manufacture 15.3 million electric stoves in the next three years to support the government’s attempt to get households that use subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking to switch to electric stoves.
Taufiek Bawazier, the Industry Ministry’s director general of metals, machinery, transportation equipment and electronics industry (ILMATE), said Indonesia was expected to produce an average of 5 million electric stoves annually starting next year. Meanwhile, the government is pushing the industry to provide 300,000 electric stoves by the end of the year.
Taufiek in his presentation suggested that solar panel and electric stove producer PT Adyawinsa Electrical and Power – which currently has a monthly electric stove production capacity of 10,000 units – expand that capacity massively to build 100,000 units monthly until the end of this year.
“Once there is certainty regarding the electric stoves’ specifications and types, [we can map out] existing companies that [are capable of producing] the electric stoves. [These companies] would then allocate additional investment to electric stove production,” he said on Wednesday in a hearing with House of Representatives Commission VII, which oversees energy and mining resources. “Technically speaking, the industry is ready.”

The government is pushing consumers to rely more on electricity and less on oil or gas as part of the country’s energy transition. State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir said earlier this month that, starting next year, the state would spend nearly Rp 5 trillion (US$334.7 million) annually to provide free electric stoves for millions of households currently using heavily subsidized LPG for cooking.
Separately, state-owned electricity monopoly PLN initialized a program of its own this year to give away more than 300,000 electric stoves.
