SHIMIZU Premium Interview: Shimizu Corp. launches interview series with respected partners

F

ounded in 1804 in Japan, Shimizu Corporation has been striving to create values for its clients in the field of design and build engineering with the spirit of master builder for over 200 years.

In Indonesia, Shimizu has been providing services in project planning, design and construction since 1974. And in recent years, it has stepped up its real estate development efforts in addition to its core construction business.

With 2024 marking its 50th anniversary of operations in the country, Shimizu is launching a new series of video interviews in collaboration with The Jakarta Post. Titled SHIMIZU Premium Interview, the series will serve as a platform to not only share Shimizu’s projects in Indonesia, but also for its partners to share insights into their companies’ future plans and visions, alongside the leaders’ philosophies.

For the first interview, Akiyama Kohei, Chief Representative of Shimizu Jakarta Office sat down with Lukito Wanandi, President Director of the Santini Group, for an extensive dialogue reflecting on their partnership and discussing the Group’s upcoming projects. Previously, the two companies worked closely together as development partners of high-rise office building project, the Trinity Tower.

The Trinity Tower is Shimizu’s most recent masterpiece, which was completed in March 2021. The project was developed by PT Windas Development, a joint venture company comprising of Santini Group, the Gesit Companies, Mitsubishi Estate Asia and Shimizu. Discussing the project, Akiyama commented, “The key to success was the three teams, business development, design, and project teams, working closely together to complete the tower. Which resulted in them exceeding customer expectations. We especially focused on process management, and duly achieved a four-month reduction in the construction period of our 246-meter high-rise RC [reinforced concrete] structure by leveraging its comprehensive capabilities”.

The iconic Trinity Tower is located at the heart of Central Business District Jakarta in Kuningan. The 50-storey tower showcases a synergetic design that reflects the combination of excellent Japanese architecture and elegant Indonesian craftmanship.

“The exterior design features traditional Japanese lattice windows [shoji], and the blinds using Indonesian batik motives are displayed in the lobby. It represents a harmony between Japanese and Indonesian culture. Simple and elegant forms of architecture express a sense of tranquility, which is a key pillar in Japanese design,” Akiyama added, describing the tower.

When asked how they decided upon partnering with Shimizu, Lukito answered eagerly saying, “When we first looked for partners for this project, we knew that a Japanese construction company would be the one because of their high skills and discipline. You can see this reflected in the structure and the façade of buildings in Japan. It’s all very neat and well cut. We were very fortunate to have connected with Shimizu for this project, because Shimizu had proven its quality through numerous projects in Indonesia, and they have done so again with the Trinity Tower. We are very satisfied with the quality of the product.”

Aside from the aesthetics, the Trinity Tower also grants easy access to public transportation, quality accommodations, and amenities. The surrounding area of the tower is populated with 4- and 5-star hotels, malls, embassies and government offices. In addition to that, proposed LRT Stations and Trans Jakarta Bus Stations (Soemantri and Kuningan Station) are within walking distance, making it highly convenient for tenants of the tower.

The Trinity Tower complies with international building standards, achieving a Gold Certification rating from the Green Building Council Indonesia. It was also awarded the Winner of Best Green Development from the Property Guru Indonesia Property Awards, and was nominated for both the Highly Commended of Best Architectural Design and Highly Commended of Best Office Development awards.

The Trinity Tower serves as a solid start for a long-lasting partnership between Santini Group and Shimizu. Lukito commented that “All the possibilities (for future partnerships) are always open. Seeing our first project with Shimizu turning out so well, we feel that we would love to work together again if there are other opportunities going forward.”

Akiyama shared the sentiment with saying, “Both of our companies share the same values – Honesty, Respect and Valuing people. Our wish is to become an essential company for the people and nation of Indonesia in terms of infrastructure, public transportation and high expertise of construction technologies. Our office slogan is Kerja Bersama, Maju Bersama. We hope that our collaboration with Santini Group will continue going forward. So that we can work together and improve together, and contribute to the further development of each company and for the people of Indonesia.”
