elekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin) has set its sights on expanding its subsea cable infrastructure network, with a plan to add seven more cables by 2026, according to CEO Budi Satria Dharma Purba.
Budi told reporters on Tuesday that the expansion would help position the country as a regional hub for subsea cables, in line with the strategy outlined by Telin’s parent company, state-owned telecommunications firm Telkom Group.
He did not disclose the investment needed to construct and lay the additional cables.
“We currently have 26 international undersea cables [owned or leased], with a total length of over 250,000 kilometers, connecting regions from Asia to America, Asia to Europe and the Middle East to Europe,” Budi said during the 2023 Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC).

Telin is currently working on four undersea cable projects, with one under a consortium with Singaporean company Bifrost.
Budi added that the firm was in the process of constructing subsea cable connections to Europe.
